That floor squeak is driving me crazy. I am Tim Carter from askthebuilder.com, let us get to work.
A floor squeak often happens when the sub floor is not held tightly against the floor joist. As you step on the floor, the sub floor slides along the shaft of the nail and this is the source of the squeak.
One way to eliminate floor squeaks is to screw the sub floor to the floor joist. It is easy to here since the sub floor is all exposed. The first step is to locate the center of the floor joist. I do like to use 16 penny nails and drive them into the sub floor until I can feel them going into a floor joist.
Once I locate the joist, I mark the size of it with a large marker. I then draw a line indicating the center of the joist. Use one and five-eight inch coarsed threaded drywall screws to fasten a sub floor to the joist. Place them at four inch centers along the joist.
It is easy to stop floor squeaks. I am Tim Carter for askthebuilder.com
