Hi, Juliane Wasserman, and my studio is Wasserman Design, and I’m showing you how to make the capital letters for the chancery cursive script in this special demonstration. So we’ve gone through letters A through N, now we’ll go A through… we’ll go O through Z. And the letter O, just like the letter C and the letter L, are very, very simple, and the letter I. It’s just the small letter, only making it 7 and a half pen widths high instead of 5 pen widths high. This… there. The letter P is like so many of the letter forms that you’ve already made. Like the H… and I’m gonna put a little foot, and like the B, I’m going to start from the outside the line, come over… and make the cap. And I can stop right there, if I want I can put a flourish, if you like you can put a flourish. But I like that P just as it is. Okay, now the letter Q with the tail is really up for personal discretion… personal exaggeration. You make the… the bowl of the letter Q the same way you make the bowl for the letter O, and then you just add the tail. And as much room as you have, you can make that tail like. Now I also flattened out the angle of my pen for the Q, the same way when I make the angle to the letter K, I flatten the angle of my pen, so I don’t get a super thick line. I’m trying to make that all the lines look like they’re belonging to the same pen that made them. Okay, the next letter R, is very similar to the letter P… and I think I’ll make a little bowl, make it a more fancy letter… adding. And I’m lifting my pen and like the letter K, that third leg I’m flattening the angle of my pen so that when I come down… it’s… it’s not too thick, but it fits in with the other strokes. And because this I have a little… longer… I’ll add that flourish to it. The letter S, the same way the letter O and the letter C, just the small letter only larger… double curve… it usually people like to make the capital letter S, because there’s so much more room in which to make those two curves. Okay, so the letter S is just like the small letter. The letter T is very different from the small letter. Here’s our small T… one… two, but our capital T… there, I put a little hook, serif, as it’s formally known, on the edge. Okay, there’s other ways to make that T, but you can explore adding all of these other touches to the T the same way. To whether you wanna put a bowl on it or whether you wanna extend it much longer. The letter U is just like the small U, only a bigger one. And the letter V is also like the small V only bigger one. W, just like the small W… one… two... three… four strokes. The letter W, like the letter M and the letter D are very, very large. So, they are often used as colored letters to add in ornamental flare to the piece of writing, because they take up so much room visibly. That if you just accentuate their high visibility, then it makes for a decoration on your piece of text. That is just very simple to make just by changing from a black ink to a colored ink for that letter. The letter X is like the small letter X. So once you learned the small letters, you surely will know the capital letters from just writing and from also using your imagination. Coz it’s a playful art form. So much of your own personality goes into the writing of the letters. Because you are conveying meaning very directly through words. Your own words or that of another author. Okay, X… now Y, there are many ways to make a Y, one of them is just to make a large small Y… and I’ll show one other Y… this… like this. And the letter Z is just like the small Z only bigger. Put the cross bar in. And we’ll make one more Z, and I’ll show you the way to flourish… remember the second cross bar from left to right is always longer… there, we could add that flourish of a tail. And we’ll add…a little waist belt. So these are the capital letters for chancery cursive and you have 26 letters from which to add in your imagination. With small letters, and that’s all there is to it. And you need to practice and take your time and enjoy the making of the letters over and over again. Because you will gain your skill and your excellence in writing through your own practice. And it actually is a lot of fun and a lot of concentration.
