Hi this is Chris Maciello from VitaminCM.com and today we are going to talk about setting up your own blog using Word Press Software. And if you might already have blog on such free platforms as Blogger or WordPress.com, if you want to have your own site, we own all the information. And you can have your own URL and address; you need to use a software that allows to put it on your own server.
We are going to use Word Press Software to do this today and you want to start by going to WordPress.org not WordPress.com or Press.org ism where you can download the free software. And get instruction for using, if you go to DOCS and then Installation they have a piece called the famous five minute install. Which is set of instructions that will help you install the software in five minutes and it really does take about five minutes once you figure out what are you dealing.
We are going to start with that and the first step is download and on ZIP the word Press Package. So I’ll go over to WordPress.org click the download button here. And it will have the most recent version, then I’ll click download Word Press again and save the file. The next thing you need to do is actually go to the Winzip file and extract it. I'm on the Windows machine and I am using Winzip if you’re on MAC or a Linux machine, you can use whatever archive – is installed on either of them.
So I'm going to browse to the folder where I want to put all my Word Press files which is going to be called Word Press installation and I’ll click extract. Okay so all the files that are extracted, I’ll close the zip file and now in the folder that I have created there will be another folder in there called Word Press so if I open that up. You’ll see all the different Word Press installation files, there are several php file, there’s a licence, a read me file and there are three folders. So the first one wpadmin has files that help you administer the site. The second one wpcontent that’s were all your plugins which provides extra functionality or your themes which give your design or look and feel.
And any files that you upload later on will be placed. And then wpincludes has bunch of scripts that help this functionality of the site behind the scenes. I usually don’t mess around in there so I just leave it alone.
