Hi everyone! David J. Castle here with LearnMagicTricks.org.
Today, I am going to teach you how to do a slipknot. Now, if you were in a club scout as a kid, you probably learned this and if you are a magician, you may already know this, but if you do not, today we are going to learn it. And, there is a few different ways you can make a slipknot. Basically, what a slipknot allows you to do is make a knot vanish. So here, we have a regular piece of rope with a knot on it. It looks like a real knot to the average person. All you do is take your hand and cover. Now, a slipknot, you just have to pull a little bit on both sides and it disappears just like magic. Now, of course all that is happening is the rope is opening up and you are covering that with your hand as the knot disappears. So, there never really was an actual knot on the rope, it was just part of the rope itself.
Now, there is a few different ways you can create slipknots if you want to get one ready before your performance, all you do is take and hold on to the rope in your left and right hands, take and twist it and make a little circle. Take one of the sides of the rope and tuck it in there. Let me get close here so you can see. You are just going to thread this right through and hold it right there. Now, you take this part and you pull it really tight. Making sure that piece stays threaded in there, as tight as you can, not too tight, but you want to hold it with your fingers because if you pulled too tight you will undo it. So, pull pretty tight and you will create a slipknot.
Now, remember when you cover this with your hand pulled on both sides, it will disappear. So, once again, one way you can get one ready is you just make that circle, tuck this in here like this and of course, you would not do this in front of them, this would be done before your performance. And you pull that and you get your knot and of course, it will disappear.
