We’ve all faced them, the nasty putts, the 4-footers, a little bit nervous and going through
the whole routine. I got the line; I got the pace in my mind. What’s important now is that
I get the mechanics right. Well I’ve got to trust the mechanics but there’s one point of
mechanics that’s absolutely crucial. The putter face. Lining up that putter face so it
absolutely squares to the line that I want the ball to start on and that’s why there’s a line
on the back of the putter that helps do that.

If you’re careless, all your good work will go amiss. Slightly open face, the ball is going
to go to the right. It doesn’t matter how good the stroke you put on it, you got to find
yourself missing. Carry this to the left guess what same thing. Good stroke but ball is
going to miss. So with all said and done we’ve go this short putts. You’ve got to look at
the club face. If you’ve got to make sure it’s square to the hole and the line you want to
set it up on and then you go ahead and trust the mechanics and make the stroke.

You’ll be nervous, everyone gets nervous on short putts but you’ll have more chance of
making them if you get the putter absolutely set properly.
