Male: It is another DIY Network, 10 Grand in your Hand quick tip.
John DaSilvia: I’m John DaSilvia and if you are ready to open up some space in an old home, don’t pay a contractor and do the demo, do it yourself. Here are some tips on how to bust down a big plaster wall without big problems.
The homeowner in this house wanted to open up this space to create a new kitchen. Before demo, you should check with a Structure Engineer to make sure this wall isn’t load bearing. Demo day involved a big sledge hammer and a small hammer. This made it easier for a team of friends to jump in and help.
To deal with the dust, everyone has masks and the homeowner put fans in the window to suck out some of these mess, and one reminder, before you start busting walls, check with your city and see if you need a permit for dumpster.
By doing this project yourself, you’ll keep the cash in your hands and not in your contractor's pocket.
