Hello! I’m Amy O'Neill Houck from AOH Designs. I’m here at A Tangled Skein, a yarn store in Hyattsville, Maryland and I’m showing you crochet beyond the basics. Right now, we’re going to look at starting a crocheting in the round with the foundation chain.
The first thing that you are going to do is chain a few stitches. Typically, I start with four or six depending on the size of a circle that I need but today, we’ll do chain four and the next thing that you’re going to do is use a slip stitch to join the last chain you made with the first chain you made and that forms the ring that you’ll be using to crochet in the round. So I’m going to insert the hook into that first chain, yarn over, get my tail out of the way, and if I tug on the little chain while I’m doing this it makes it a little easier and then yarn over and pull through all the loops on the hook. And now I have made my starting ring out of the chain.
Next we’re going to start crocheting with an Adjustable Ring.
