Laura Roeder: Hi, I'm Laura Roeder and I want to tell you how to create a hashtag on Twitter. So first of all what am I talking about what is a hashtag? A hashtag is a word that we use on Twitter to know what we're talking about, what we are referring to so that people can all know that they are talking about the same thing and stay on the same conversation.
So what a hashtag looks like on Twitter is that it's the pound or hash sign, this thing followed by any word or phrase and when Twitter sees the pound sign in front of it you can click on it to see all the other tweets that are talking about that topic and its called a hashtag. So you might use it when you add an event you could add a hashtag to your tweets so that everybody knows what event you are talking about or just to certain topics that everybody who is talking about the topic can all find the other tweets that are talking about it.
So how do you create a hashtag? Its actually much simpler than you think there is nothing that you really have to do in Twitter, there is no directory that you have to register in. All you do is write the pound symbol followed by whatever word or phrase you want to use for your hashtag. It's important that you don't put any spaces. So after the pound symbol you go right into the words and you don't want to have any spaces in between your words, if you have a phrase.
So all you do is write pound symbol followed by what ever words you want but no spaces anywhere and you've created a hashtag.
