CARTER OOSTERHOUSE: Hey, I’m Carter Oosterhouse, and this is your next GMC Trade Secret.
Wallpaper is a great medium if you’re looking for any interesting way to incorporate some distinctive décor into your home. It comes in limitless colors, textures, designs. And you can cover a variety of surfaces around your home. Not sure what I’m talking about? Let me show you.
Here I simply chose this wallpaper with a really tight pattern. I put it into this picture frame, where art would usually live, and I basically made my own art. Now, you don’t always have to choose a tight pattern. Floral patterns work really well, like you can see here. And, of course, this is a much bigger pattern, and we just highlighted the one element. And, of course, also you can see behind me where we have two different patterns but they complement each other really well.
Wow. This bookcase looks fantastic. So what I did is I took wallpaper. I cut it out to the size where you can see in the back here. I cut it to fit, and then I simply applied wallpaper glue on the back of it and then just placed them on. And then when you’re looking for wallpaper, don’t just think you have to look for different colors or maybe even patterns, but also look for textures. You can see it completely transformed this bookcase.
All right. So, now, the staircase in your home is usually a place that’s often overlooked. And here I’ve created an unexpected focal point by adding wallpaper on the risers of the staircase. Now, you can see here that I used a pattern that’s pretty tight and pretty small, but it has a really bright color that pops, but it looks great in this room. And it’s going to have a lot of scuff marks probably show up over time, so I recommend using a vinyl, which I did here, or a wallpaper that’s a little bit thicker, so it makes it easier to clean.
Now, this – it makes a huge difference in the design of the staircase. Now you get to enjoy it every time you walk up the stairs.
So just remember, you can add a lot of visual interest in this space with just a little bit of wallpaper.
I’m Carter Oosterhouse, and this has been your GMC Trade Secret.
