How to Create a New Blank Document in InDesign CS3
When you first start Adobe InDesign CS3 you’re going to come up with this introduction screen and from here you can open a recent item or you can create some new items.
How you can create a new blank document is you can either click document on the introduction screen or you can also go up to file, new and then document and you’re going to get the new document dialog box. You could choose a preset if you have saved a preset previously from this dropdown list.
For a number of pages you can choose how many pages you’re going to have in your document and you can always add or delete pages at a later time. You could choose to have those facing pages and this will give you a two-page spread when you view your document. You can also choose to have a master text frame if you’d like.
For page size, you can go ahead and you could choose from several defaults or you can choose custom. And then you can also manually set the width and the height if you want. And these are measured in picas which is about a sixth of an inch. So this would be 51 picas in zero points.
You could choose the orientation either have a portrait or landscape. You can also choose to have a certain number of columns. If you’d like to have a certain number of columns in your document then you could just go ahead and increase that. You can also change the gutter. You can also set the margins. Right now, it’s three picas which is about half of an inch, is the margins. And you could go ahead and change those if you’d like.
So when you’re finish setting up your new document go ahead and click the OK button. And then it will go ahead and it will create the new blank document for you.
