Hi, I am Dave Epstein and you like to grow Asiatic lilies or any of their relatives? If you do, you probably know about the ornamental lily beetle and take a look at this plant, it has a lot of the ornamental lily beetle on them. They are brilliant red. They are a disgusting pest. They will destroy any of the plants that they attack. So, what do you do?
Well, one thing you can try is picking them off by hand and noticed how easily they come off from just sort of picking them off. They have this brilliant red color and I just smooch them. Then what you can do is spray with something organic like Neem Oil. Neem Oil seems to work pretty well. You got to stay on top of it, apply it every week and really watch to see if your plants have any of the lily beetles on them. If you notice some black goopy spots that almost look like soot that is actually the larvae form of this beetle. So, you want to also pick those off of the plant as well and be sure to clear any area around the base of the plant from any debris because the beetles like to live down there and that is where they will winter over. You can still have things like Asiatic lilies. Look at these, they look fantastic. They are just beginning to come up because I continually am on top of them and treating them and picking any beetles off. Just a little bit of a hint there for those of you that love those gorgeous lilies all summer long.
