Ashley: Shopping for your prom dress? Hi! Welcome to WatchMojo. I'm your host, Ashley and today we are going to speak with Cathy Wilson who is the head dress buyer for Laura, who is going to show us the latest trends. What are the top-5 trends for prom this year?
Cathy Wilson: The princess' inspired dress, kind of looks Alice or Cinderella, pinched up pleats, fitted bodice, and we loved it so much we even did it in a shorter version. Another popular trend is the bubble dress, a fitted empire twist tops and a cute bubble hem, and the beautiful thing about that is it comes in intense colors, electric blues, cobalts, azures. So it's one of our favorites as well.
Metallics. Metallics are either brocade, fabrications, gold, silvers, and sequence also lend a look to the metallics. We can't forget black and white, always ever important, and this year what makes them a little extra special is they come in polka dots and prints as well, you know, short and long, beautiful gowns.
Ashley: Why are accessories so important for prom?
Cathy Wilson: Accessories really add an edgy look. Aside from the dress, accessories can change the look of the dress and set them apart from someone else. They can really make the difference in an outfit.
Ashley: And can you tell us a little bit about the colors and fabrics for this prom season?
Cathy Wilson: Sure, metallics are important. So gold and silvers, the intense colors of electric blue, azures, black and whites, and in addition turqs and pinks are also very important in every season.
Ashley: Any tips for finding the perfect prom dress?
Cathy Wilson: Oh! There are lots of tips. I think number one you should bring the shoes you are intending to wear or a similar height, pantyhose, proper bras or underpinnings. Bring a girlfriend or mom, because you are wasting the second opinion. Don't be afraid to go outside the blocks or your comfort level and try on something you might not have thought of to try on before. Don't forget to ask, if you don't see the color or style you are looking for because not all stores, you'll see all styles and colors. And have fun.
Ashley: What's the average cost of your prom dress?
Cathy Wilson: Our retails range from 110-295, but the average is about 195.
Ashley: And is there a specific style that looks good on everyone?
Cathy Wilson: Oh! That's a tough one but yeah, I would say empire waist usually looks good on everybody and an A line shape.
