How to Choose and Prepare a Mango

Because mangos come in a variety of colors, the best way to know if a mango is ripe is
by its smell. If the stem of the fruit has a fragrant fruity odor then it's ripe. You can also
apply a bit of pressure like this near the top. It should be firm but give way slightly.
Avoid those with bruised, dried, or shriveled skin like this.

There are few ways to prepare a mango. The easiest being to peel it and remove the pit, it
is best to cut a bit off the bottom of the mango so that it sits flat. You can then slice it or
dice it into cubes depending on the recipe.

Another way which is nice is to leave the skin on and slice the mango into cubes and then
turn the skin inside out. No matter how you cut or prepare them, mangos are beautiful in
color and rich in flavor.
