How to Change Your Attitude About Your Age
Paula’s Video Blog with the WIN Founder and CEO, Paula Fellingham
Paula: Hello and thanks for joining me I wanted to talk today about age. You know I’ve heard long ago age is a matter of mind if you don’t mind it doesn’t matter. There are many people who have a little reticence to talk about their age but I just told mine freely because you know you could add up my children’s ages and you’ve added a few more years to that and you could figure it out but I’m 61 and I was okay with my age till about 55 and then I started to think oh this is getting a little bit older than I feel like I am I really felt like I stopped at 33 but now that my oldest child is 37.
In fact on her birthday last week she said mom I’m older when you stopped. I said that’s right but I wanted to talk to those who have a little bit of challenge with age and of course we’re not oblivious to the fact that you know as we age and we get more wrinkles and we’re a little bit slower than we were we can’t jump as high or move as fast and we think gosh this is not as much. I’m not liking this very much and yet we again I talked in our last video about our attitude. Its all really a matter of attitude.
I have seen some vibrant fabulous wonderful people who are 98, 99, 100 years old and then I’ve known others who are in their 60s and 70s who act like they’re 100 I think what makes the difference and I think that the difference is truly in the way you look at it that age is a matter of mind that if you don’t mind it doesn’t matter and you can continue to be that vibrant person giving yourself this wonderful self talk. You know I maybe getting older but everyday I’m getting better that’s when I say to myself and that’s okay because I say to myself now I just shared it with you.
But its exciting to know that we have choices relative to how we deal with our age. We can be sad and actually make our self act older than you know than we really are our weekend truly try to keep that youthfulness and that energy and that cheerfulness in our heart and no matter how many wrinkles we get and they’re coming faster and faster now that the key is truly our attitude and how and what we’re doing to make ourselves feel younger and one of the things that I would like to suggest is that when your life is in service of others when your thinking about others.
And when you’re focused on how you can help others how you can strengthen others then truly you’re not you can’t be thinking about two things at the exact same time you can’t be thinking about you and you can’t really be you thinking about how sorry you are that you’re getting older, that you’re getting a little slower than you were before and I would like to suggest that as ou feel your life with thoughts about how you can help others be happier. Being others centered instead of self centered that that will make a huge difference as we age. One of my grandsons left me a message that I put up on my refrigerator he says you know you are really good for as old as you are and I wasn’t sure what that meant it was his little 7 year old way of saying you know that he noticed that even though I am older that I can still be there for him and I love that he said you’re really good for as old as you are.
Thank you Nathan that makes me feel good. I think but you know its just a wonderful comment that I have about being others entered where you’re focus is and to get out and just remember that age is a matter of mind if you don’t mind that doesn’t matter. Have a wonderful day and I hope everyday of yours is going to be filled with WINs bye-bye for now.
