Audra Lowe: We don’t have to be single to mingle on Valentine’s Day. You might just want to have a good time celebrating with your girl friends right? You want to do it right. Nina Spezzaferro is the editor of Celebrations.com and she’s got some unique tips and since its—week, she’s actually going to make this party a one stop shop for a lucky viewer out there. So, make sure to pay close attention because you never know what you could win. Good to have you here Nina.
Nina Spezzaferro: Thanks for having me.
Audra Lowe: I would just say, it doesn’t have to be all about dates. You could just have a good time.
Nina Spezzaferro: Exactly. Valentine’s Day is about love so you might as well spend it with your girl friends or even have a singles party and get some of your single friends to meet each other.
Audra Lowe: Right and I love the way you said it that this is classy and sassy at the same time.
Nina Spezzaferro: Yes, classy and sassy.
Audra Lowe: In terms of the menu, you have a couple suggestions in this so here is an eggplant risotto that you made right.
Nina Spezzaferro: Yes. So, I wanted to go with the purple theme because I like purple as a kind of non-traditional Valentine’s color instead of your traditional red and pink. So, I like to think of food as part of the day course so I’ve done a purple menu here. So, we have eggplant risotto which is really a party staple and it’s easy to prepare and then you’re kind o f bringing in the colors of the purple eggplant.
Audra Lowe: Right and just a little hint of red in there with the Hershey’s kisses. I like that too and also the cupcakes that you have.
Nina Spezzaferro: I love red velvet cupcakes. Just switch it up a little bit, purple. Red velvet is really popular and the only thing that makes red velvet red is food coloring. So, all you have to do is substitute purple for red and you’ve got purple velvet cupcakes.
Audra Lowe: They look like they taste pretty good,
Nina Spezzaferro: Yes and the only caps is you have to make them yourself to make to get them purple.
Audra Lowe: That’s alright though and they little bit working the kitchen’s fine with me and then the drinks that you have here too. You can put and make them without alcohol or without.
Nina Spezzaferro: Yes you can do a virgin version of it as well. It’s free ingredients
Audra Lowe: What did you put in this one?
Nina Spezzaferro: It’s a grape energy drink with some lemon lime soda and then a little bit of vanilla vodka.
Audra Lowe: Got you. Okay, so that’s in to it. Now, the party to core is also a big deal too. So, what do you suggest for this?
Nina Spezzaferro: I really suggest is keeping it simple so that you see here we have the plum crazy arrangement from Onehundredflowers.com. So, just like little touches of purple flowers. So, even just some candles to kind of set the mood for the affair.
Audra Lowe: It doesn’t have to be anything too extravagant.
Nina Spezzaferro: No, I mean it’s Valentine’s and it’s not really a décor holiday so just keep it simple and again your menu kind of serves as part of the décor.
Audra Lowe: Right and you have to have some games too and Nina you suggest that actually having your guest kind of joining in the spot.
Nina Spezzaferro: Exactly. So, if it is a singles mix there’s a great game to get people to meet each other. So you’ve heard of white elephant, secret santa, dirty santa, all those like gift exchange games. So, on your invitation, you just ask your guests to bring a wrapped gift within a certain price level. Something fun, flirty, silly like massage oil or something like that, wrap them up and then everyone can exchange gifts and it also serves as a party flavor.
Audra Lowe: And that’s the way you do it so that people don’t hate Valentine’s Day. Just make it fun too. Last but not least, you have given our viewers a chance to win not one, not two but quite a few items, like a big party pack.
Nina Spezzaferro: It’s a whole party pack so viewers can go to celebrations.com/sweepstakes and enter for a chance to win this party pack. It features products from Onehundredflowers.com and PlumParty.com
Audra Lowe: Great and I have to say, we didn’t plan this purple thing. We’ve really didn’t plan. I had no idea till we got here but it was daft. Thank you so much Nina.
Nina Spezzaferro: Thank you Audra.
Audra Lowe: Alright, remember log on to Bettertv.com. Watch the story. It’s called Singles Can Mingle Giveaway. And then go to the Click to win button to enter the contest. Good luck.
