Hi I’m Mark Donovan for HomeAdditionPlus.com and today, I’m going to share to replace some whole silicon caulk in the ceramic tile shop. Okay. What I’m going to do is merely place the old, dried out caulk with some acrylic latex silicon caulk from depth. First what I’m going to do, however, is I’m going to cut out and remove all the old silicon caulk that’s around the base of the shower unit because one thing with silicon, it sticks to everything except itself, so you have to remove all the old, dried out silicon caulk before you can put in the new material.
So what I’m doing is I’m taking the utility and these are just scouring and scraping away the mold caulk from the base of the shower unit. And I work my way all the way around the entire sharpener. Okay, that should about do it. Now what I’m going to do is clear up all around the edges here and make sure there’s no film left on this area. I’m going to tape above and below the line, so that we can put a nice, smooth a bit of caulk in this joint.
So now, what I’m doing is I’m putting masking tape along the base of the shower pan and likewise, I will do it on the bottom portion of the ceramic tile. So we run our covering with a nice, clean line along the base of the ceramic tiles and the edge of the fiber glass shower pan. Now that I have applied masking tape around to the same, then I’ll start the caulking. Okay. So now we’re going to cut the tip of the container at a 45-degree angle, so that we get a big of a caulk along the scene. I will use the utility knives to do that. And then I’m going to use a small, thin screw driver to break the seal that holds the caulk from coming down like the tube.
So now, we’re applying the caulk in the scene and I’m going at a nice, smooth canister rate. So don’t put too much material or too little material in. And once we have the bead, we’d out roll, take our fingers and smooth it up and then eventually, remove the masking tape.
So now I’m just using a moist paper towel and running my finger over the most out along the seam and we’re going to get a nice, clean line here in a moment once we’re going to remove the masking tape. Okay. So what we’re doing now is removing the masking tape from both the top and the bottom piece and you can see here we have a very clean cut line that requires no additional work. So we’re going to let this sit up for approximately 24 hours and we’ll be ready to use the shower again.
So that’s all it took to replace this old, dried-out caulk and the shower installer. Again, I used some acrylic latex silicon caulk. This is water proof, it’s mold and mildew resistant fusion, so make sure you use something similar to this as well. You need a caulking gun and some masking tape. And within 15 minutes, you too can renew the caulk on your tub or your shower unit and have a look it like new.
