When you are caring for your cookware, there is different methods for different metals. Aluminum cookware is really easy to care for with just a little regular dish soap. Copper requires a copper cleaner, if you really want to keep that beautiful shine that it has in the store.
Don't put copper in the dishwasher. Cast iron takes a little bit more care, specially in the beginning of it's use. It has to be seasoned. Seasoning the pan is essentially, greasing the pan and cooking it. Some people never even touch water in a Cast iron.
Because you don't want to remove all that seasoning and all that care you put into making the pan so good. Using a really high flame on good cookware is a really bad idea. A high flame may discolor the outside of the pan. Most cookwares are usually really easy to take care of.
