I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultants and a registered nurse. I have over 18 years of experience assisting mums and their babies to achieve successful breastfeeding. I have extensive experience working with preemies, multiples, babies with cleft lips and pallets. Another disorders such as cardiac conditions or seizure disorders.
I currently have my own private lactation consulting practice, assisting mums and the babies in their New York and New Jersey homes.
In today's video, how to breastfeed your baby, we will be highlighting the important topics of breastfeeding.
These topics include the benefits of breastfeeding, the timing and signs of hunger, positioning and types of holds, latching, effective breastfeeding and when to end a feeding.
We will be discussing the equipments such as breast pumps, breastfeeding pillows, breast shells and nipple shields.
Please remember that this video is meant as a general guideline on how to breastfeed your baby. If at anytime you're experiencing difficulties or discomfort, please contact a local lactation consultant. She will be able to address your issues.
Other times to call a lactation consultant would be if your baby was in the neonatal intensive care unit or special care nursery, if your baby is jaundiced, if he's losing weight or gaining weight slowly or if you're feeding twins or triplets. Also, if mother is on medications. If she's experiencing engorgement, if she has cracked or sore nipples or there has been no change in the size or shape of her breasts during pregnancy.
