Erik: How are you learning to better manage your time and commitments?

Matt: Boy, it continues to be tough. I have a series of tricks. I love managing my time and figuring out how to do it, but it is a challenge. I mean, it is a complete beating and it frustrates me. I carry a little red notebook, I have it on me right now. And it’s got my pen in it. And it’s a product by a certain company and I absolutely love it and it’s got 90 pages in it. If you know what I’m talking about, the particular kind of brand. And what I have to do, literally is write down, you know, what my to-do items are. I still have a legal notepad by my phone or by—at my desk. And that gets a series of to-do items written on it every day. I wish I was better at it. There are people who are incredible at it, that know how to use technology to their best, you know, to the best that they can. You know, I use my iPhone, I use my iPad, I use Outlook, but there’s been nothing that has been as successful for me as writing it down and having it in my pocket. You know, call me old-fashioned but I can whip out my little notebook, you know, I can flip through and find a phone number of somebody that I can connect to, to the person that I’m sitting there talking with right then and there. And if I had written down, you know, hey, this person is looking for a job, I get to go to my perforated back 45 pages of my notebook, and write down their name and number and hand it to that guy and say give that person a call. And when that item is complete, I scratch it out. And there’s nothing that I love more than scratching out a to-do item. It’s the best in the world.
