Travis Stork: Chances are you and your family will be spending a lot of time outdoors having barbecues, playing in the pool, may be doing some gardening. But did you know there are hidden medical dangers in your own backyard that could be putting your family at risk. We wanted to find out what hazards could be lurking. We sent the accidental house wife Julie Adelman on a house call.
Julie Adelman: Hey Sandi. I'm Julie Adelman, the accidental house wife.
Sandi: Come on in. I've got two crazy boys. What toys should I look for that both that would keep them safe?
Julie Adelman: Look at this luggage. Rips and tears, an anchored for your little child, because it like starting it to play, you want to get rid of that. Here too, with plastic toys what could happen here do you think?
Sandi: A finger can get caught in there.
Julie Adelman: Right ripped, blood, and instead of you horn, horn, your ear horn you don't want that to happen either. I love your backyard.
Sandi: Thank You.
Julie Adelman: But this is an accident waiting to happen. You cannot have these things on stone. And neither is grass good and nearly mud either or dirt because it doesn't absorb the impact as much as something like wood chips and sand will. And lastly done, when was the last time you clean this stuff?
Sandi: Probably since last summer.
Julie Adelman: You know kids love playing with those as right. So let them hose this baby down and just use some dish washing liquid and then this place will be clean and safe. This is a surprising solution. You know your little kids -and Jack. Put those boys to work. Let them draw a circle around the grill area so they put a safety zone there. That way, they know they can't get too close and they have a sense of you know having done something and may be you can sip a little outdoor cocktail while they are doing that. Here is a really easy way to clean the grill using some stuff you have around the house. Aluminum foil, I love these babies. Okay, you are going to roll it up into a little ball, while the grill is still hot, and then you dip it into color. See how great this works. You just go back and forth and well all becomes. They can do a pretty job here.
Sandi: You are. keep going.
Julie Adelman: But Sandi for the reason I don't do windows.
