Greg Reveles: Hello, my name is Greg Reveles, I am with Renorr Dynamics. Today I am showing you how to properly and thoroughly clean your wood or composite deck. So, right now I am going to cover site assessment and equipment setup. As I approach a deck to clean it, the first thing I do is I walk around, I take a look. I want to determine is it a big deck or is it a small deck, is it five or six, eight feet off the ground or is it ground level, does it have handrails, does it not have handrails, are there stairs, are there no stairs. These are the things that effect the overall way I am going to setup the equipment.

I also want to determine are there bushes, are there shrubs that are going to impede our ability to get to the deck and wash the deck, before using a pressure washer which we will be doing or we need to identify the water source and make sure that it's -- we have sufficient water in this area usually that is the case.

I am then ready to mix the chemicals, the cleaner that we are going to use. I always recommend using a pre-treat chemical and now is a good time to do that. It takes about 20 to 30 minutes for the chemical to dissolve with water and during that time, I will be setting up the pressure washer, laying out hoses, connecting the garden hose, and so forth and giving the powdered pre-treatment time to dissolve.

I usually recommend placing the pressure washer about 10 to 15 feet away from the deck. While they can't withstand some over spray of the water, you don't want to dare lose. So, now we have completed our site assessment and our equipment setup. It's now time to move onto prepping your deck to clean.
