How to a Project Tile Layout

Welcome to tiling methods and now we're going to talk about how fast to lay out the tile. I know we talked to you about that before but now we’re going to lay it out in the sense that we need to know which direction we're going to go with the tiles. We know that everything works. We've got a straight line down so that it can look good and we've got to start and ready to go.

But now we want to do is figure out what direction are we going to go. How are we going to lay the tiles? What's the first and second and third and fourth and so on tile? There's a few reason for doing this ahead of time.

One; once you start putting mud down, you really wanted to just get going and get started. If you leave it too long, your mud can dry and then you just have to throw it away, you’ll extend the time. Once you start laying the tile down, you just want to keep going and finish it as soon as possible.

So what we’re going to do is one— we’re going to figure out the direction that we’re going to go with the tile. And two— we’re actually going to do some cuts ahead of time so we’re going to get some of our complicated cuts done so that when we are ready to go, we just drop them down and put our mud down and drop it in and go and then we will have a few cuts later on but at least we've got a good start.

Now, we figured out that this was a great spot to put our first tile. This works great, it's great eye candy right in the middle. It goes down and when you're walking right down your aisle. So what I've done—I've put the tile in exactly where I want it and now you want to mark around the tile—your pencil because you will not be laying this top. Funny now, this will actually be your very last tile you put in. you don’t want to put your tile down here first when you’re laying— when you're doing an actual laying of them because this is where you're going to be walking the most. You don’t want to put your first tile down where you're walking the most.

So what you will do is you pencil off and then you know where your starting point is. So we’ll take that tile off and now we have a good—this is our main first tile. Everything stands off of about one tile. This is very important. We did that right.

If you noticed, I have put the tile back a little bit into the carpet. The reason for that is, when you do your transition piece—if you have your tile elk a bit, when you try and put your transition piece in, there’ll be a gap here. it won't work out so you want to jam it in a bit. And even if you have to go in a quarter of an inch, a half inch, that’s okay to it. it’s easy and no problem to cut the carpet afterwards. You can stretch it very well.

There is a carpet stretcher but I wouldn’t recommend going in that root. So just keep it in enough that you're sure that it gets across the whole—across whatever—in this case, carpet—whatever your other floor is.
So now we’ve got that one worked out. Now we have to go from here. We want to go this way over and then we will be going up and come back and then down this wall. Now the reason for that is, if we were to start on this side and start tiling down here, we come up to here and we’d be left with this really little spot to try and work on it. it just does not work. You need a good like two tile width areas or basically two feet to be able to wall comfortably.

So the best root in this particular case is to go that way and then come down and then over and back like we’re saying. There are two factors that you need to think about when doing that. One—will I step on the tile as I’m trying to lay out the tiles? You definitely want to have that answer as a no. You do not want to have to step on any tiles or over any tiles to keep tiling. And the other one is—will I tile myself into a corner?

Now the thing is if we were to go this way sanely, we went all the way down to here and over here, we’ll be coming back to here and you could not work. You could have stand in. because if your tile were right here, you couldn’t work in that area. So basically, you’ll be tiling yourself in to a corner and you have to try and sneak out sometimes.

I've heard of some people. They’ve actually had to step on the tiles to get off and of course that ruins it because now your tile is uneven and down. They’ve had to try and pop it off. Some people left them and it just doesn’t look good, it doesn’t work out so this is yet again another important step and that’s why we’re doing the direction
So this is again important stuff and that’s why we’re doing the direction that we are doing.
