Hi everybody! Welcome to www.onlinelessonvideos.com my name is Sandy Weltman. Today’s lesson is another of our series of hot licks for harmonica and today’s lesson is called 20 hot pentatonic licks and patterns for the harmonica. So if you haven’t printed out your tablature go ahead and print out all those and then we’ll go ahead and get started.
Today’s lesson is all about pentatonic scale and some licks and exercises that along with it. If you're not already familiar with the pentatonic scale it’s a five-note scale hence the word “penta” like pentagon. And it’s a very profound scale it’s been used in a lot of music and it sounds great with light blues and jazz and country, blue grass, rock and roll and a lot of other types of music. So what we’re going to do today as we dig into it I've got this lesson divided up into three sections. First we’re going to look at 10 different pentatonic major and minor pentatonic phrases and I’ll play those for you and we’ll play them together and then we’ll play along with a rhythm track and then we’re going to look at some really great pentatonic exercises and then finally we’re going to look at some pretty cool pentatonic licks.
And by the time you get done with the whole video and you’ve worked on all these you're going to be really, really familiar with this and be able to incorporate into a lot of your playing. So let’s go ahead and get started and take a look first at the major pentatonic scale.
Here’s lick #16. Its fun little lick it’s played in triplets, used by a lot of guitar players. Let me play it for you first and then we’ll slow it down and try it together.
