The Tai Chi Minute
Hi, David Dorian Ross here, America’s Tai Chi champion, time for another Tai Chi Minute. Today, I’m going to be adding to the five pieces of the Tai Chi basic step that we’ve been working on and today’s topic is what's known as the Hip Turn. Now, one of the earlier Tai Chi Minutes, I talked about the body motion and every Tai Chi step is a little bit different. There are some body motions as we know that it combined both the waist turn and the hips. There are some motions that separate the waist turn and the hips.
Today, I’m going to talk about how you get that hip turn into your Tai Chi basic step. So if we start in the most of with the basic Tai Chi step. Remember that part one hits our shift back. Part two, is our whole body pivot, part three, going into a Chi step and now here is where we imply the hip turns. Hips over but the waist stays motionless and the hip or the waist stays facing this way, the hips turn then this is four and shift forward five and that’s where the waist comes in play.
Now, you’ve got to practice separating the waist from the hips. I just stand in front of a mirror, move your hips side to side so I can isolate the hip. One more time, this is what it looks like. One, more time do it with me. Two, whole body pivot, three, step up to T-step, open the hips and step four, and then shift forward to five.
All right, that’s enough for this week. I’m David Dorian Ross. Remember; play your Tai Chi your not working it to death. Have some fun with it and I’ll see you in the next Tai Chi Minute.
