Hanging an Outdoor Ceiling Fan
Hear the DIY basics on hanging an outdoor ceiling fan brought to you by DIY Network.
An outdoor ceiling fan can provide cooling breezes and light to outdoor living spaces that are exposed to the elements. These fans use weather resistant materials and are especially designed to keep moisture out of critical motor and electrical parts.
Once the electricity is turned off and you’ve removed the existing light fixture, a support brace is attached to the electrical junction box. Replacing these brace with the sturdier ones supplied with your fan will ensure that your fan has proper support.
It is best to install the fan blades before you hook the fan on to the bracket to save time and aggravation. Then the wires are reconnected. Using waste strips to balance the blades reduces wobbling and improves efficiency.
Many units also come with remotes that allow you to easily adjust the blades speed when the fan is out reach.
