Audra Lowe: Halloween’s all about getting created to invited Gail Dosik here; she is the founder of One Tough Cookies. She’s going to be helping us out today, Gail’s got some of the most creative decorating tips for transforming that ordinary cookie or cupcake into a memorable Halloween treats. Welcome to the show Gail, good to have you here. Gail Dosik: It’s good to be here Audra. Audra Lowe: Because my Halloween cookies are look just like this, at the end are no creativity what so ever. So when you starting off doing this you need a lot of materials? Or you can to keep it simple. Gail Dosik: You can keep it simple and the first thing I always like to recommend to people is prepare your dough at least the day in advance. Audra Lowe: Why is that? Gail Dosik: It takes the stress away. Audra Lowe: Okay. Gail Dosik: Completely, if you have your own cookie recipe and one are rolled it up between two pieces parchment paper and put it in the freezer or rest that’s great. If you don’t have a recipe of your own, you can buy the dough in the refrigerator section of the supermarket and do the same thing. Audra Lowe: Yeah, because that’s lots of work too. Gail Dosik: Absolutely, the fun part is the decorating so I want to jump to it. Audra Lowe: Speaking of decorating you got a few different colors over here. Gail Dosik: Yes I do. Audra Lowe: If you do, now let’s you explain what you do with wet. Gail Dosik: When you start to decorate the first thing you want to do is prepare what is known as royal icing which is a combination of confectioner sugar and pasteurize egg white. Audra Lowe: Okay. Gail Dosik: I have it in two difference strength if you well, I have stiff and I have flood. Audra Lowe: Okay. Gail Dosik: The stiff is what we use to outline, I think I will start doing it this way. Audra Lowe: You use the stiff to outline right? Gail Dosik: I used the stiff to outline which is really going to create a dam for the flood. Audra Lowe: Okay. Gail Dosik: And I will show you just how that’s going to come out and we always like to keep a toothpick handy. Audra Lowe: Yeah, because you’ll never. Gail Dosik: You’ll never know when you have a little plug up. Audra Lowe: Is it easy enough for kids to do too Gail or? Gail Dosik: It’s a great, as a great family thing to do it really is. Audra Lowe: Wow, look at that very steady hand. Gail Dosik: Oh yeah, but you know what the icing tells you what you do. Audra Lowe: Really, would be telling me of what to do. Gail Dosik: Absolutely tells you what to do. Audra Lowe: You have so much stuff over here particular order that you have to go in is it better to that? Gail Dosik: I like to start with the outlining first. Audra Lowe: Okay. Gail Dosik: And then for example we’re going to do---- Audra Lowe: The eye. Gail Dosik: The giggly eyeball. Audra Lowe: Okay, all right. Gail Dosik: And the fun thing about that is that what we do is we start with the big black glove in the middle. No talent needed there, I’m telling you these are ----- letting you in all the bake of secrets this is how we take. Audra Lowe: You just put one right on top of the other like that? Gail Dosik: Eggs this is the ----exactly and we’re making that ring around the eye. Audra Lowe: And because for the sake of time let me asks you, how do you get the entire that the white around the outside? Do you have to just continue as you feel that all in with white? Gail Dosik: Yes. Audra Lowe: Okay, got you so it takes a little bit of time to get that off till then. And you’ve said you can do the same thing with the cupcakes so you can get really festive with them, you don’t have to keep and boring, right? Gail Dosik: You know at the bakery we never send out a cupcake without a cooking on it so I always recommend taking a lollypop stick and baking it into the cookie. In that way you have a nice beautiful style look. Audra Lowe: Okay. Gail Dosik: And it’s not going anywhere. Audra Lowe: Okay. Gail Dosik: The other thing I like to also recommend this time with your any holiday times here is to decorate your cupcakes, make even if there is store boot. Sleep them into I call like a little paddy coat. Audra Lowe: Alright, I’ll take this object so people can see. Gail Dosik: Absolutely. Audra Lowe: And just wrap that around. Gail Dosik: Wrap that around its sleeps, its fantastic little tab in the back that just makes it so dressy and so festive. Audra Lowe: You mix it and you now want to take it apart unlike me I’m tearing it up. Gail Dosik: But you know what take it away because I’ve used just take it all the away all together because reviews is the pretty muffin cup. You bake it cookies, bake cupcakes into a beautiful muffin cup and you’re there. Audra Lowe: We do a great job and I know your book has plenty of ideas in there too. Thank you so much Gail. Gail Dosik: Thank you. Audra Lowe: Good to meet you. Gail Dosik: Nice to meet you.
