Guest Bathroom Remodeling Tips
Eric Stromer: Hey, I'm Eric Stromer. You know some stuff like fine wines and antique furniture just improve with age. But the same cannot be said for home remodeling projects. Just ask Randy Gamboa and his son Ryan of Whittier, California. Now they started a bathroom remodeled way back in 1992. Yup! You heard me 1992.
Randy: What I wanted to do originally was actually take everything out and then my friends and my buddies they said, “We’ll help you put tile on it.” This how far the project got, I put the wall board in here and I was never able to get the guys to comeback to help me out.
Eric Stromer: Ah, disappearing buddies. It happens all the time.
Randy: And I end up trying to do this all by myself and it just didn’t help.
Eric Stromer: We’ll start by fixing all the dry wall then we’ll tile the shower. First creating a water barrier with tar paper and backer board, we’ll also paint the walls, redo the floor, add new base port and finish things off with the new medicine cabinet and light fixture.
The Gamboa bathroom remodel is finally finished. This is what it look like just a few days ago.
Randy: Well, hopefully Ryan was able to complete the work. He wasn’t the most skilled guy out there so hopefully that he learned something in doing this so hopefully everything is done really nice and well.
Eric Stromer: All right, so let's count him in. Are you ready? On three open your eyes. One, two, three open your eyes.
Randy: Cool! This is nice. You know, this is what I envisioned it many years ago. This is the way it was, very nice. Hey, the faucet that never there still brand new.
Eric Stromer: Also brand new lighting.
Ryan: Medicine cabinet decided to go something modern, something smaller. Brand new floor peel and stick took up that old mushroom color carpeting.
Eric Stromer: Tiles in very well he does it, and then baseboard all way around the entire room and that really finishes the room. We really sort of added that, the paint, the tiles.
Randy: Very nice.
Eric Stromer: So how are you, are you proud of your son?
Randy: Oh, absolutely yeah. You did a great job and that hey thanks son.
