Great Looks for the Mother of the Bride
Rhiannon Ally: And wedding season is now in full bloom and we all know it's the bride’s big day. But we thought we’d focus on mom for a change. Lesley catches up with the celebrity stylist to ask some great new ideas from mothers of the bride or the groom including soon-to-be mom-in-law, Hillary Clinton. Take a look.
Lesley Nagy: Thanks Rhiannon, and I'm here with celebrity stylish Jenny Altman, who’s here to show us the latest trends for the mother of the bride. Well, it's about time someone focus on the mother, not just the bride.
Jenny Altman: Every year I get asked all these questions during wedding seasons about what to wear, whatever we want to wear to weddings and what’s appropriate for the mother of the bride and the groom.
Lesley Nagy: Let's see the looks you have.
Jenny Altman: Absolutely! We got some great ones here. These are two really great options for formal dresses that are not too typical mother of the bride. We have this amazing Teri Jon dress. It's $810.00 and what I love so much is that it has the sleeves.
Lesley Nagy: The three quarter sleeves are perfect.
Jenny Altman: It's fantastic and it's flattering on everyone. You don’t have to worry about showing this area if you don’t feel comfortable. Cover it up and feel comfortable and the great thing is that it really camouflages everything on the bottom half. Don’t worry about your hips, your tummy, your legs, this covers it all. We also have this gorgeous Carmen Marc Valvo dress at $1025.00 and what I loved about this is that it has the same ampere waist line, really flattering, covers the thighs and hips but it’s all a little of top if you have a great definitely the thigh’s area, show it off. Great arm, show it off.
Lesley Nagy: And do you have some suggestions because I know Chelsea Cotton’s wedding is coming up, Hillary Clinton.
Jenny Altman: I think for Hillary although she may wanted to do something like this, she probably should stick with something like this. It’s something like we’re used to seeing her in or kind of scare any moms away from what they should wear. I think this is a great alternative for all those pictures.
Lesley Nagy: And have you made that to suggestion to Hillary Clinton yet?
Jenny Altman: Not yet but I would like to.
Lesley Nagy: Oh! I love the details here.
Jenny Altman: Oh I loved this also. But these are such great alternative to a typical mother of the bride, Lesley. These were both from Teri Jon who’s known for mother of the brides’ dresses that have amazing detail at great priced point.
Lesley Nagy: I think woman would love the rushing too.
Jenny Altman: Absolutely, it was slimming here. Just don’t forget your shape wear, very important with this dress. But this is great because it totally covers the bra area even in the back full coverage and this one is $790.00. The fuchsia one is $440.00 and what I love about this you really can wear this again.
Lesley Nagy: It's a knock-out for the wedding.
Jenny Altman: Beautiful, I love the detail around here, the great length is fun. You can wear this to a destination wedding, outside, anywhere.
Lesley Nagy: Wow, this one is all the glitz and glamour.
Jenny Altman: It is. This, you definitely would even not think of the mother of the bride but you know what why not have a little fun. It's your day too. This is the Badgley Mischka dress for $880.00 available at Saks. And what I love about this is that you do not need any jewelry, anything else. This is just all in one package, not strapless for everyone but if you can do it, you got great arms and shoulders, show it off.
Lesley Nagy: Well, thank you so much. These are great looks. Now what overall advice do you give mothers of the bride?
Jenny Altman: I think you want to wear something that when you look back at these pictures 10 or 20 years from now, you want to look classic, young, fun, think about that and when you’re picking an outfit, simplicity. Simple jewelries, simple shoes, great shape wear, you’ll look fantastic.
Lesley Nagy: Thank you so much Jenny and back to you Rhiannon.
Rhiannon Ally: Yup, shape wear is always key whether you’re the mother of the bride or just a guest at the wedding. Don’t be embarrassed, we all need it. Thanks Lesley.
