Hi. I am Bob Schmidt with Home Remodel Workshop. I just got home from a long day of making templates and I am going to sit back and relax. But if you are going to make templates in your own house, or you going to have someone else to make templates in you house, there is a lot of things that need to be taken into consideration before you do. I will show what they are. Let’s get to work.
When making countertop templates, really there are only two materials required, Birch or Fir plywood or luan quarter inch and some card board for making any curve type areas. Snips that are made that are both great for cutting the quarter inch luan or venire and also cutting the card board. A hot glue gun will be required to both glue the venire strips together and also glue the venire strips to the card board area. Simply squeeze it in, press it together and it holds it nicely.
When making a corner with the venire strips, simply let the strips overlap each other. You can cut them all of after they are dried with the snips. On the curve eating over hang, we simply extended the card board a little farther than what we needed, so that we can play with several different radiuses until we found exactly the one we wanted.
It is critically important to have any projection that comes through your countertop on site and in place, such as this under mount bowl, any appliances that the counter top may run adjacent to. Have your support brackets in place for any counter top over hangs so that you know that you are going to have the proper amount of support in the area that you need. And also even right down to the faucet, in case there is an over hang area to make sure that you have enough clearance for that faucet so that it does not hit in between two pieces of granite. Every under mounts bowl will come with the card board template which you need to send to the fabricators so that he knows exactly what to cut.
Really mark you template, wall nose splash in this case, with our fabricator a simple x less than no, what type of edge and what edge that needs to be polish as in this corner section. Mark any seams right on the template and make any specially knows, such as how far they under mount bowl is going to be mounted. Also where the center of the cab it is that the under mount bowl is going to be mounted in. after your template is complete, take some pictures of it to send to the fabricator, so that will eliminate any future question.
A nice feature about a template like this, put enough support braces in it, is you can actually pick it up and see what is going to take to get the actual granite piece in to your project.
After reviewing some of the tapes of this video, I realized that there are several things that I missed that could project to your counter top. Such as an air switch for like a disposal, install hot system for hot water system, a water purification system tap. All of these things need to be on your project before you make it, so that you can lay out exactly where these holes needed to be drilled and they can do it at the fabricator and not at your house where they are going to make dust.
