Image Source: Engadget   BY MADISON MACK   Google took to this year’s SXSW festival in Austin, Texas to show off their upcoming Google Glasses. But they also unveiled another piece of new hardware that got some shoes talking.   Shoes: “ This is super boring ... That’s more like it.  ...  Call 911 because you’re on fire .. En fuego ” ( Via Google )  We know what you’re thinking. Why would anyone want their snarky british shoe to provide running commentary of their day-to-day? Don’t worry, Google has no plans to actually get into the shoe biz. The shoes are more of an experiment as part of Google’s Art, Copy & Code initiative . The projects head says, “Our goal is really to figure out how you marry innovations in technology with marketing and advertising.”   Google’s Kate Preacher breaks down how the shoe works for The Verge. “So in here we have a pressure sensor, an accelerometer and a gyroscope.” “So it can tell when you sitting down, when you're walking or running, how fast you're going, if you jump up or down and it can give you feedback in its own little sarcastic way.” So how might this smart shoe technology be useful? The Washington Post says “...imagine if, rather than having an app in your phone that tells you how far you ran, your shoe told you. And if you woke up too late for a run, the shoe would tell you how far you could have run.” And TechCrunch’s Gregory Ferenstein actually got to try a pair on. “At a distance, users seem a tad pathetic trying to trigger positive feedback from the shoe. But when I strapped it on, I felt oddly compelled to impress my new automated coach. Combining coaching (even robotic coaching) made lifeless data unexpectedly motivational. Essentially, it’s Richards Simmons in a shoe." But more than anything, the talking shoe gives us a glimpse into Google’s mindset when it comes future projects and technology.   “It’s Google’s fun toy to show off at South By, really a way of proving a point; wearables, connected devices and the Internet of things are on Google’s menu.
