Richard Paradise: Hi this is Richard Paradise from Plum TV at the Going Green Expo in Boston, Massachusetts. We’re going to be visiting with a number of companies hoping to bring some of those tips and suggestions back to our own community on Martha’s Vineyard. Let’s go check it out.

Male: We are incredible excited about what’s going to happen this weekend. We are going to take the first steps to taking Boston and the rest of the mainstream of America to the green side of life.

Female: I’m here because I own a home and I’m doing renovation and I wanted to do it in a green way.

Male: I’m just trying to do my part basically as a human being to not be wasteful, be thoughtful where I live.

Female: Oil is $2.00 a gallon now so maybe with these solar panels, we can offset that cost.

Richard Paradise: What constitutes green design?

Female: Natural fiber clothing, it’s how it’s made. We are totally off grid and we completely run with solar power.

Richard Paradise: Wow!

Female: I dedicate different jackets to different endangered species and I donate 5% of my profits to different environmental organizations.

Richard Paradise: I’m here with Dennis O’Connor of Waste Management Inc. Now this is not your typical waste management company.

Dennis O’Connor: Our vision is a lot different. We take your trash away and we take it to a single stream sorting plant where we can pull out recycling or we can get to a landfill where as the trash decomposes, we take out gas and turn it into power, energy at your homes. We feel responsibility to make sure it comes back to you even in the form of energy or --

Richard Paradise: What can you tell us about this car?

Male: It’s a 1980 Austin Mini that we removed the gasoline engine. We built it with a diesel engine and we’re running it on dual fuel system. It allows it to run on diesel fuel or straight vegetable oil.

Female: This is a kit form of a geodesic greenhouse dome that operates totally off grid using solar power. We are able to grow vegetables year round sustainably and organically in such northern climate as the White Mountains in New Hampshire.

Richard Paradise: Jeff, what are you sitting on?

Jeff: This is the Vectrix, the 100% motorcycle with zero emissions. All I need to do is plug it in.

Richard Paradise: You don’t have to rely on the current rising --

Jeff: Oil and gas prices.

Female: What Green Depot is trying to do is to get a solid network of green building products and healthy building products in one place so that homeowners, contractors, builders have kind of a one-stop store for green and healthy building materials.

Richard Paradise: We’ve had a great day here at the Going Green Expo in Boston. We’ve had an opportunity to peek inside the coming wave of new technologies for sustainable energy.
