ERIC STROMER: Hey, I’m Eric Stromer. Here’s your GMC Trade Secret.
You know, nothing makes a home feel more inviting than a hardwood floor. And there are a tremendous amount of choices when it comes to this type of installation.
This first choice is the traditional hardwood. It generally comes in about three-quarters-of-an-inch-thick stock. It’s a little bit difficult and tricky to lay unless you’re a professional woodworker, so this is definitely the choice for you if you want to hire somebody else to do it. Beautiful. It is refinishable as much as you need it to be; great choice if you have that traditional feeling in mind.
Now, this particular choice here is called an engineered floor. It’s on a piece of plywood. And there’s about a quarter-inch veneer reflecting the type of wood you may want to choose – great product, much less expensive than traditional hardwood. It is refinishable about two to three times, so it is limited in that sense. But it’s a great option.
Now, this choice here is called a laminate floor. Now, this is on a piece of MDF, and it actually has a tongue-in-groove system that snaps into place – very easy to install if you’re a do-it-yourselfer. This is actually a picture of the kind of wood that you’re interested in, superimposed on top of the MDF.
Here’s another laminate option that has the hand-scraped feel literally embedded right into the MDF with a photo superimposed. It gives you a real hand-crafted feel.
As you can see, there are a tremendous amount of flooring options available to you. Don’t be afraid. Go out and get yourself some that you really love.
