How to Measure Tile

ERIC STROMER: Hey, I’m Eric Stromer with your GMC Trade Secret.
Now, I’m going to show you how to measure for tile in case you want to find out the square footage of your floor. It’s very simple. Sometimes it seems a little overwhelming. But I’m going to break it down for you.
You generally take a floor area and you break it down into sections. So I’ll show you how to do that right now.
So we’re going to go from this wall out to the edge of this cabinet here. That’ll be our first little square we’re going to measure. So that is five-foot-nine by eight-foot-seven. So write that down – five-foot-nine by eight-foot-seven.
Now, don’t forget to go under your appliances. So let’s measure behind this washer and dryer combo unit here.
Once you’ve added up all the square footage of your tile floor or whatever surface you want to put tile on, take that to your dealer and make sure that you add 15 percent in case you have some sort of a scenario where a tile gets cracked and you need to replace it later and maybe it’s out of stock. You’re going to have some extra in the garage for you.
You also want to compensate for little complicated cuts that might require more tile than you need.
So that’s it. I’m Eric Stromer. That’s our GMC Trade Secret.
