ERIC STROMER: Hey, how are you? I’m Eric Stromer. Here’s your GMC Trade Secret.
Now, an area rug in any room can create an enveloping and inviting, cozy space, as long as it’s the right size, the right color tone, and has the right dimensions for that particular room.
In this situation, this area rug to me looks a little bit like a bath mat. It’s extremely undersized. It doesn’t tie in and invite all the furniture to the center of the coffee table, making a really inviting space.
Another thing an area rug can do for you is if you have a floor that’s got some divots in it or needs refinishing, it can accomplish two things. It can cover it up, and again, it can provide a warm, unified space.
I don’t like this. It looks like a bath mat. It’s the wrong color tone and the wrong texture. Let me get something else that might look better. Hang on one second.
Now, I love the texture of this particular rug, but I think the contrast is too stark with the dark floor and it really doesn’t tie in the furnishings. It’s not quite right either.
Ah, look at that. It perfectly matches to the terracotta. It references the throw pillows. It ties in the chair, inviting a living space right here in the center. It also has a pre-existing non-slip barrier on the bottom. If you don’t have one of those for an area rug, you can always buy those and cut them to size.
I think I’ve found my rug. I think this is what we’re talking about.
