KELLY EDWARDS: Hi. I’m Kelly Edwards, and this is my GMC Trade Secret.
Do you want a way to really set your wall art apart? Well, floating frames are a great way to showcase smaller art and give them a special look.
Now, these here are called shadow boxes. And what’s special about these is that they have depth and dimension, which is perfect for your items that aren’t flat. Here I have a butterfly tucked in the middle all by itself. Over here I’ve used several, and then used some decorative paper. And this one I gathered all my mementos from my trip and I’ve layered them into one frame.
Now, these are pre-made, but I’ll show you how to make one all your own. Now, I’ve taken a piece of construction paper and I’ve actually sprayed adhesive to the back here. So I found these skeleton leaves. And what I love about these skeleton leaves is that they’re translucent. So you can see through them, so they’re perfect for layering.
I’ve grabbed some clear thread and a needle, and I just ran it straight through the leaf so I can hang it.
Now, what I’m going to do is I’m going to grab some tape and I’m going to tape it to the top of my thread here like so. Take your tape. Put it right through here. Then you want to put it inside the box and just tape it to the top.
Now, I’m going to do several of these at different heights. Okay, so I’m adding my last leaf. And what’s cool about these is when you put the backing on, it looks like they’re floating.
So there you have it – beautiful floating art, which is a great way to bring depth and dimension to your walls.
