GlasVegas Talks About Touring
Rebecca Brayton: They were saying at Glasgow are super different from each other, would you agree with that?
Caroline McKay: Yeah definitely.
Rab Allan: Yeah they all stink and we’re great. That’s really the biggest thing I guess. You know most of them are pretty shit.
I guess there are some good ones. I like Camera Obscura, Franz Ferdinand! Love them, great guys, Travis. You like Belle & Sebastian and stuff they’re a pretty good band.
Caroline McKay: There are so many different genres and groups of people and stuff.
Rab Allan: Glasgow has never had like a Manchester. It’s just had good bands over a period of time you know. We have never fit in Glasgow and I don’t think we ever will to be honest.
Rebecca Brayton: I know you guys are open for Oasis a while back when you mention them. You have anything to say about their most recent breakup?
Rab Allan: I think that’s it now. Oh no it’s definitely is. It’s gone. And I think it was a natural thing. It’s a shame but we did some shows with them and they didn’t speak to each other. You know, we never saw them together. They never travel together. I think things just come to a natural end sometimes.
Caroline McKay: Such great people as well.
Rab Allan: Yeah two of them are beautiful.
Caroline McKay: So lucky to have managed to tour with them while they were, you know, Oasis. It’s just—it’s a real shame.
Rebecca Brayton: What is it like to tour with U2? They are like the biggest touring band right now.
Rab Allan: They were terrible guys. They treated us terrible. It was like, “Who are you? What do you want?” It was terrible. Bono is actually that size. He’s the same size as Caroline.
Rebecca Brayton: No.
Caroline McKay: I swear to God he’s my height. Honestly Oasis, U2—we’ve been very lucky to you know be surrounded by some amazing bands.
Rab Allan: We’ve not met any assholes yet, have we?
Caroline McKay: No we haven’t.
Rebecca Brayton: Anything you guys have picked up from these bands?
Rab Allan: I was quite embarrassed when we did some shows with U2 at how bad some of our stuff was, to be honest as a band and maybe technically. I think since then we’ve really tried to improve playing live. Which is at this level and the big venues are really important. And from a technical side buying some really expensive equipment and leaving me with no money. You know things like that. It’s definitely an eye opener.
Caroline McKay: There are so many things. I mean how can you compare someone like us who’s really only been out for what a year, a year and a half to someone who has been touring for 20 years.
Rebecca Brayton: How are preparations going for the new album? Are you planning to do anything differently on the next one?
Rab Allan: We’re going to record some good songs this time as opposed to last time that the songs were okay. We’re going to record some amazing songs. The stuff’s better than the first album. Next time, you know, I think—
Caroline McKay: We know more.
Rab Allan: Yeah that’s a better way of putting it. I could have put it a lot simpler, “We know more.” We’ve learn more this time. So definitely—
