Travis Stork: Could it happen to you? That’s what we’re covering today and if you have glass furniture in your home, there are some very important safety issues that you need to know about. So, how many of you know if your furniture is made from tempered glass, regular glass. Do you guys have any idea? A few people do. Well, watch this recreation.
So, a director of Product Safety, a consumer report told us there really is no safe place for a glass, coffee table or in table with regular or a neo glass. They conducted this test between regular and tempered glass. Now, you’ll see here the regular glass breaks into dangerous shards, has jagged edges. And we all know that jagged edges and shards such as you see in there can cause serious injury even death.
The safety or tempered glass actually, as you’ll see in this demonstration, it breaks with more rounded edges and you’ll see much smaller pieces which aren’t going to cause death. Yeah, they may cause a cut or a scrape but we’re talking about shards of glass that they are going the wrong spot, the blood vessel on the wrong spot and you could die.
Jim Sears: Now, if you have a glass table that you don’t know if it has a tempered glass or you're just not sure or if you're sure it doesn’t, you can actually get a safety film that you can put over the glass that will essentially keep those pieces together and you won't get the big shards of glass like we saw in that video. You can get this at most glass or window installation companies.
