Gerard Yosca's Fall 2010 Jewelry Pieces
Female: Gerard Yosca is a trend setter and innovator when it comes to jewelry design. He was instrumental in reintroducing colorful enamel pieces to high fashion. Lauren stop by the designer show room in Manhattan for a peak at his latest creations.
Lauren: Are we rolling in? I got mike on camera today and I got Gerard Yosco who does the most amazing jewelry and here, we’re going to look at his stuff. Okay, tell me a little bit about this collection because we’re looking at—what is this, spring or fall—
Gerard Yosco: This is fall.
Lauren: Fall 2010.
Gerard Yosco: Yes.
Lauren: I got to keep it. I don’t know how you guys design so quickly. Everything has to be done in two seconds.
Gerard Yosco: I’m always late.
Lauren: Oh okay.
Gerard Yosco: Start late and late.
Lauren: Well that’s good. That’s a good attitude to have. So tell me—okay I’m loving that. Tell me little bit—
Gerard Yosco: I love that necklace. This collection, it’s almost a Schizophrenic. It’s called town and country and the group that we’re looking at right now is country. It has like geodes and courting that’s macro made. It’s very earthy. The things that you probably choose to wear for your own pleasure.
Lauren: Usually always but especially this season is very bold—bold pieces.
Gerard Yosco: You know what? I was a graphic designer before I do jewelry and I kind of think in terms of things being simple and graphic.
Lauren: That’s gorgeous. Now these are all costume.
Gerard Yosco: This is costume but you know costume jewelry is a lot of handwork. I’m a real big believer in the hand of the artist in the product. I like things to be a little wacky and crooked. I like it to look as if something set down at the work bench and made this.
Lauren: What is this made of because this looks like real diamonds?
Gerard Yosco: Those are swarovski. That’s a wonderful and swarovski stone they have and they’ll do it in custom shapes for you. Know what also what we also really felt was there was scent of like the necklaces are all like tortured and like looks knot it up. Like one really interesting well thought out strand necklace, that looks new to me.
Lauren: That’s beautiful. I love the intertwining and you have mix—you hard and soft, you have pearls which are very feminine and then you have just metal which is—
Gerard Yosco: Its kind to be interesting.
Lauren: I think everything here is really interesting. Cuffs, oh that would look good on me too.
Gerard Yosco: Lots—oh look at this.
Lauren: Check that out people. That’s gorgeous too Gerard.
Gerard Yosco: Thanks.
Lauren: What makes the season different here at Gerard Yosco?
Gerard Yosco: You know what I change all the time, it’s really about what I’m feeling, what I think my customer wants like this will be gone and we’re off too a whole new land. A fashion changes and I consider myself more of a fashion designer than a jewelry designer.
Lauren: But I think your pieces, believe it or not, I think they’re classic and what you buy today you can still wear five years and ten years from now, just add to the Gerard Yosco collection—
Gerard Yosco: Absolutely.
Lauren: Basically.
Gerard Yosco: People come in and they’re wearing things and like 15 years old.
Lauren: And why not.
Gerard Yosco: They look good.
Lauren: I’m so loving this collection. I love all my stuff and thanks for joining me. I’m Lauren Ezersky for Better. See you later.
