Given how short our growing season is and how busy everyone is these days we know that most of you are interested in getting maximum pleasure from your garden with less effort. And giving your gardens a little TLC at the beginning of the growing season can help to ensure big splashes of color all summer long.
As our passion for gardening continues to grow so too does our demand for inquires convenience in the garden. Healthier plants with more blooms can be easily achieved by following three simple steps. Charlie Dobbin is a Canadian horticulturalist and landscape designer.
Charlie Dobbin: Canadians love having beautiful gardens and the best thing is to have a beautiful garden that is great all season and nobody wants to do a ton of work to keep it beautiful. So there are few important things that everybody should keep in mind.
Number one fix your soil first, number two, pick the right plants that are going to grow in your conditions, and number three feed them. Fixing your soil means really going out and looking out what is going on in your garden beds. Soil naturally depletes over the years, it disappears and a nutrient disappears with it. So you got to be amending and adding bag of soil or soil to your garden every spring. Now when you are looking for soil, look for a good quality soil because it will have the right amendments that you need. It might little have some plant food in it of course plant food going into your garden beds will feed your plants give them a nice healthy start.
Sherry: For those who are planting in window boxes and other decorative containers. New potting mixes with moisture control contain natural materials like coconut fibers. They hold up to 33% more water than ordinary potting soil releasing moisture to the plants as needed. This helps to take the gas work out of watering.
Charlie Dobbin: When you are gardening in containers remember you must choose a potting soil for the pots. Garden soil is only for the gardens, potting soil is for the pots. After you have planted your plants into that good quality soil remember feeding them with the starter fertilizer is a great way to just give them that boost. High phosphorus, root growth very good for the health of the plant.
Now is the season continues though we have to maintain nutrients to the plants. There is a couple of ways you can do that one is use a water soluble fertilizers something you mixed in a watering and can go around every two weeks watering the plants or use a hose and detachment and water that way. Or another option is used a slow released fertilizer very simple. You just sprinkle it to the surface of the soil and it will slowly break down over the period of three to four months releasing the nutrients to the plants and helping them stay healthy.
Sherry: Big healthy plants with lots of blooms in three easy steps soil, plant, and feed it is that simple for more gardening advice checks sout www.miracle-grow.ca. Sherry Dementerco reporting.
