Jesse Draper: Hi! I am like the Valley Girl. I live in Silicon Valley, the heart of innovative technology. I know where all these awesome companies are, but how the heck did they get here? That's what I am here to find out. I am like the Valley Girl. What do you do?
Hi! I am like the Valley Girl, and we are back with Ron Hornbaker and Scott Sorochak of Foopets.com. So I have to tell you I was a little disappointed that I couldn't get a flying dog. So Archie and talked it over and we just had some suggestions for you in terms of pets you could on your site. So Archie really would like to have a dog with wings. So I think your cats and dogs should maybe add some wings. What do you think?
Scott Sorochak: Flying is one of the overall experiences everyone has had.
Jesse Draper: Yeah, yeah exactly.
Scott Sorochak: One of the -- as we are looking prospects here.
Jesse Draper: What do you think Ron?
Ron Hornbaker: Are you sure those aren't bunny ears for a person, I mean.
Jesse Draper: No, they are definitely wings.
Ron Hornbaker: Okay.
Jesse Draper: They are pink.
Ron Hornbaker: I'll take your word for it. I've never seen that before though. If the kids start asking for it.
Jesse Draper: Kids start asking for the flying dogs.
Scott Sorochak: Foopets.com, just keep saying yes, yes, yes for wings.
Jesse Draper: So tell me about team, your team at Foopets. I understand you have a lot of pets running around the office.
Ron Hornbaker: Yeah, we have humans and canines on the team. So we have four or five dogs and then I guess some bears.
Jesse Draper: So you have dogs kind of collaborating with you on--
Ron Hornbaker: We do, we do. And sometimes we videotape them for reference. It's nice having the references handy.
Jesse Draper: So tell me about some of your advertisers?
Scott Sorochak: We've got sponsors that for the most part really -- the tie-in obvious. It's any type of animal related with the advertisers.
Jesse Draper: Right. And it's really cool how you can actually buy Purina dog food for your virtual pet. Scott Sorochak: That's right.
Ron Hornbaker: Yes, and it's very cheap to make.
Scott Sorochak: The margins are totally high on that virtual dog food for what we get from our sponsors.
Jesse Draper: So tell me a little bit about marketing. Why is marketing important?
Ron Hornbaker: Some people think of marketing as pretty pictures in a magazine or a TV commercial. But that's really not the way Silicon Valley companies market. The way we market to be effective with the dollar is distribution deal. And I am going to toot Scott's horn here because the distribution deal is all about human relationships.
Jesse Draper: Now, how did you come up with all of your fun Foo terms? Tell me if some of your favorites.
Ron Hornbaker: That's a word that I just -- I had a fondness for the word Foo. It was short and the domain foopets.com was available. There are million others that I thought of weren't available.
So you have got to go with the .com that's available. But yeah, it's fun to build off value, and we've got the universe in development. We've got fooples.
Jesse Draper: What are fooples?
Ron Hornbaker: People.
Jesse Draper: Oh!
Scott Sorochak: They are people who are passionate about it.
Ron Hornbaker: Yeah, well sort of between fooples, and foopetters or foomans.
Jesse Draper: Fooples.
Ron Hornbaker: People.
Jesse Draper: Feeps, you can call them Feeps.
Scott Sorochak: Feeps, not bad.
Jesse Draper: Peep, that's what I call people.
Scott Sorochak: We'll give you credit if we start going with that.
Jesse Draper: Okay. Well, I have a little activity for you guys.
Scott Sorochak: Does it require wearing pink.
Jesse Draper: No, unfortunately.
Ron Hornbaker: Check.
Jesse Draper: But he is wearing pink. So its call the Fabcup short for fabulous. Basically, the fabulous cup is full of fabulous terms. And I challenge you guys to define as many terms as you can in one minute. Okay.
Scott Sorochak: Okay.
Jesse Drape: Ready? So go.
Ron Hornbaker: I am glad something didn't jump back because he is so much fun to scare. Internet is what Ted Stevens doesn't understand. FooDollars.
Scott Sorochak: I hope we have five billion of those in the next year.
Ron Hornbaker: A virtual currency. FooMojo, our company parent company of Foopets. Spam.
Scott Sorochak: Great!
Ron Hornbaker: Great cooking. Success, something we hope to have.
Scott Sorochak: We'll have it some day. Purina.
Ron Hornbaker: One of our best sponsors.
Scott Sorochak: And Ron actually did the eating of the Purina. That's a part and parcel of the -
Ron Hornbaker: Yeah you didn't have to say that.
Scott Sorochak: Britney Spears.
Ron Hornbaker; He is guilty. Britney Spears.
Scott Sorochak: Cuddly: same Britney Spears. Virtual: not real.
Ron Hornbaker: Archie: your dog. Harley, what I love to ride. Dog, what we create. Cat, it's also what we create.
Scott Sorochak: Facebook, excellent, excellent company.
Ron Hornbaker: Ron Conway, the best angel investor in the world.
Scott Sorochak: Entrepreneur, Mike Maples.
Ron Hornbaker: Economy, we have to manage our own economy and virtual currency.
Scott Sorochak: Startup, FooMojo, best startup of the world.
Ron Hornbaker: And that's it.
Jesse Draper: Well, thank you guys so much for coming out today.
Scott Sorochak: Thanks for having us in the show.
Ron Hornbaker: Yeah thanks.
Jesse Draper: Of course. I am like the Valley Girl.
Ron Hornbaker: I am like a Ron Hornbaker.
Scott Sorochak: I am like Scott Sorochak. And we are like Foopets.
Jesse Draper: Play Foopets. Thanks for watching. We'll see you next time.
