Hi, this is Mike Callahan, Doctor File Finder and welcome to your Butterscotch.com tutorial on using the search window to search in spotlight. I've done an earlier tutorial on doing a basic search and spotlight but this is a little bit more advance, a little bit more powerful.

So on your Mac in finder click, file go down find, now the window comes up and what this does its gives you a way to specify more criteria for your search then you can adjust search window of spotlight. So I can specify the location, This Mac is the entire computer, Michael is my section of the computer, shared documents or shared server volumes, I can also specify whether I want to search for the contents of the file and file name and so on.

So I can also specify whether I'm looking for the last modified date, created date, name. I can also decide whether I want to say that it’s application, a document, folder, image, movies, and music and so on. So I can early specify so I'm going to say text. And you see immediately without even typing anything in spotlight brings up text files. If I change it to be PDF it brings up yet other results and you can save these results.

So this is a powerful way to search your Mac or want to search by create date within let say 25 days and it brings those up. So this is a powerful, powerful way to search you Mac and find exactly what it is you're looking for because you’ve been specify exact criteria. For example here within the last exactly so many days before, after, today, yesterday gives you complete control over your search.

So this is how you can use a search window and spotlight and its all there is to it.
