Erik Michielsen: What makes your work meaningful?

Hammans Stallings: So, I would say what makes my work meaningful comes down to, you know, fit between my background and the lots of different things that I know, and the kinds of problems that I'm -- I'm tackling and how there are -- fits between those two things in a way that I get very excited about. So, when I come across a new problem, I spend a lot of time just understanding how to sort of frame that problem and all the different ways to look at it and that process itself creates a lot of meaning. It actually makes my background really relevant. So, all of the different associations I have that come from different fields that I've -- I've studied. So, whether it's psychology or economics, strategy, marketing, all those things become alive in that sense in a lot of ways, I am kind of a cumulative things that I've learned that the meaning comes from that sort of relationship between the problem and my background, and how I think about those, the background in those -- in that problem. Meaning comes from fit, I would say, and it starts to fit between my -- my background and the problem and new of what I've studied. I work in an environment where those things kind of magically all are relevant, maybe not all at the same time, but any one area or several of those areas are kind of always present in a problem. And that means that what I'm sort of actually thinking through is always going to be meaningful.
