ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: There were fierce clashes between protesters and police in Egypt's Alexandria on Sunday outside a courthouse where the city's former security director and other officers were being tried over killings during the 2011 uprising. Around 300 protesters were killed in Alexandria during the revolt that toppled former President Hosni Mubarak from power. A police van sped towards protesters who threw stones, one of which knocked the helmet off an officer who was standing through the roof of the van. On a separate court hearing on Saturday, an Egyptian court dismissed cases against 379 people accused of involvement in clashes with police during protests near the interior ministry in November 2011 in which 42 demonstrators were killed, the state news agency reported. Saturday's decision was based on President Mohamed Mursi's offer of an amnesty for those facing charges related to events during and after the 2011 uprising that ended the 30-year rule of Mubarak.
