In a blog post, Facebook explains spending the $1 to send a message will ensure that your message gets sent to the receiver's Inbox instead of the Other folder. Video Source: WSYR “For example, if you want to send a message to someone you heard speak at an event but are not friends with, or if you want to message someone about a job opportunity, you can use this feature to reach their Inbox.” So what exactly do you get for your dollar? PC Magazine explains. “The $1 fee will open a thread with a non-Facebook friend. If that person replies to your note, you won't have to pay again to respond to them, ... If the recipient moves your note to the Other or Spam folders, however, you won't be able to pay to contact them again.” CNBC reports the new feature will have some limitations during the test period. “It's limiting the test to individuals rather than companies or brands, and in order for this not to feel like spam it's only allowing users to receive one paid message each week.” As of now, the test will only include a small percentage of U.S. Facebook users. CNET’s Donna Tam says … “But if this feature, similar to the way LinkedIn does its InMail service, proves to have legs, it could become a staple -- and another form of revenue for a now public company eager for more ways to make money.” Facebook announced the test along with a few other changes to the filters that decide which folder messages go into.
