And with two-thirds of all American adults using it, a new study shows some people are suffering from “Facebook Fatigue” and just need a break.   The study done by the Pew Research Center shows 61 percent of current users admit to taking a break from Facebook for several weeks or more. And 20 percent say they no longer use the site. So why are people deciding to take breaks? For many reasons; including: ·       They’re too busy with other demands or don’t have time to spend on the site ·        A general lack of interest or absence of compelling content on the site ·        Excessive gossip or drama from their friends   The research was conducted through phone interviews of about a thousand adults, and 38 percent of those between the ages of 18 and 29 said they expected to spend less time on the site this year. It’s exactly what the social network warned its investors of last week: the cool kids are so over Facebook. “…we believe that some of our users have reduced their engagement with Facebook in favor of increased engagement with other products and services such as Instagram.” CNN points out —planning and doing are two separate things. But the intention to reduce reliance on Facebook should raise a red flag. “Mark Zuckerberg's company needs to keep its users active on the site and mobile apps, ... If Facebook starts to feel stale, more of its active users could take longer breaks or leave altogether, like they did with such formerly hot social networks as Friendster and MySpace.” But Facebook doesn’t seem too worried. They responded to the study, referring to a January study by ComScore that ranked Facebook as the number 1 mobile app in the U.S. “As we announced last week, Facebook has grown daily active users across all regions, ending the year with more than 1 billion monthly active [users] …Our announcement came on the heels of independent analyst reports which concluded that Facebook is the most downloaded mobile app in the U.S.”
