Stanford Milinga: This where they break enhancer, no, it’s not working.
Female: See the horn.
Stanford Milinga: Yeah, see the horn. I’m trying to think, it might be because we are in a hunting block right here and then most of the elephants here, sometimes they become close go to the hunting block right here and then probably they missed with the bullet and then they coma back again to the national park. So they have got a something like being affected even if, changing sometimes come without warning because once they come across to the vehicle they think that maybe this is the hunters, so sometimes they get memorize that I saw the vehicle last time and then this vehicles is like attacking me so they think that every vehicles are hunters. That’s another problem. And then for these elephants here, you can see like a one tusks looking down and then another one is just pointing forward but its very short. So that also little mind which hands of the elephant is that. The elephants we have right hand users and the left hand users. So to know which is which, you look to the tusk.
So once you se the one tusk is short it means that it’s used every time, so if it’s left side you know, this is the left side users. If the one on the right, you know this is the right side user, but in case of these elephants probably before he was getting some problems when he was pulling something maybe and then that one was like getting like a crack, and then he get luck because doesn’t fall down and then remaining there. So the gaining again but loosing its shape instead of pointing forward it’s just pointing down. Then life goes on.
But this is the left hand users that’s why you can see the left tusk is used to be very short than the right hand tusk. There is company who has been registered doing hunting and then they have hunting gloves. I wish if it could be the president or one of the holders of this nation of us, I’ll never accept that thing because the hunting is conducted in the board of the national park. They’re just creating the human borders, just say this is the end of the national park and this is the hunting block, how do they inform the animals that this will be hunting block and this will be your side, so they have also to make the if words to make sure that the animals understanding that. And then if the animals understanding they will never cross the border to go to the hunting block because nobody want to die. But these guys because they are looking for the money and then just saying that from here now we are selling we can give you a license and you can be free to hunt which is like not to give the rights to the animals.
So the peoples that have got license, oh! Look at that he’s trying to push the anothers away. Let’s just look to this elephant what he’s doing here, just coming form nowhere and then the one who’s feeding on the road, he come and pushing him away and then just staying there. Okay we continue.
Sometimes they say that maybe somebody can come here and then count the elephants so that the elephant so many now, so we have to hunt some in order to decrease the numbers, which is not true. If they are many it means that they will get a shortage of food and then their number will decrease slowly instead of somebody’s to interfere with them and starting killing them with the gun and everything. Coz if the natures decided to kill them, automatically it will choose for those who are weak. But if you are somebody’s to come here to say that the number of elephant becoming many so we have to hunt them it means that he will look for the biggest one which is the strong genes and then have to get maybe a big horns and a big stuffs like that. And then he will ignore the small one which probably would be the weak genes, Those who were supposed to be died before, so that’s the problem so far hunting peoples.
Maybe after twenty years, your son or your whatever at your home would like to come back here and then you’ll find there’s nothing to see. So if you just coming here taking photos and then going back at home just ideas will make sense that come here hunting the animals.
Dikdik, on you right there down like tiny one, now one is running away, always they are two, dikdik.
Female: Stanford, what do you like about the Tarangire Park?
Stanford Milinga: Just Tarangire, the scenery also of the park is somehow very beautiful, when you just driving and starting to get in the gate and then slowly go down to the park, you can see all those small hills from the Tarangire Hills. And when you go down into the smallest pond where we are now about going to approach here and the famous things is just rivers within the park which cleans the park also Tarangire and these rivers is like seasonal river also but never dry. So even if the dry season the animals have got a certain skills especially elephant and the other monkeys. They can go to that river and try to dig down. They know that they go a few meters down the waters, So even the animals and other animals like zebras also wildebeest who doesn’t have skills of digging down, they know that some baboons going there or elephant they will find the hole and they will get water.
Female: Speaking of elephants.
Stanford Milinga: So that’s a family of elephants just coming form the swamp. Now somehow starting to be hot but not serious one was like a sitting or finding the shed down the trees and then it’s a good place because there is a trees and then there is enough grasses down so they can feed by the same times resting on the shed and here is getting like a dust bed to avoid itching of the bodies, they just threw the dust on the bodies, so those itching which getting from the other insects to starting us a lot now, so you just can see shaking the hands and or heads and also they destructing the elephants, so sometimes biting and then remaining with the small swelly, so by using this sense putting their bodies helping them to hold those itching. They are pointing at us.
Female: Is that a good sign or a bad sign?
Stanford Milinga: The thing is that elephant, they are very poor in eyesight but very good on hearing and smelling, so even right now you might find they didn’t see us but they can hear there is something coming and which distance we are with that thing. And also they can smell very well, but on eye sight they are very poor. So once we just approaching them here finding they are pointing their mouth to our side, some of that getting the smell this things are coming towards us. That’s another thing to the elephant, they are not good in eye sight, but hearing even if you just walking down they can hear it, you’re walking.
