A New York City elementary school adopts an all-vegetarian menu for kids. A Meat versus Vegetarian diet has been debated for a long time. Now, an elementary school in New York City has adopted a menu featuring all-vegetarian meals. The principal of public school 244, located in Flushing, Queens states “The founding of our school was based on health and nutrition and teaching kids how to make healthy choices in the belief that they would be more successful academically and in their life.” P.S. 244 has now become the first public school in the city and possibly the country to adopt a solely non-meat list of dishes.Example options on the new menu include tofu vegetable wraps, bean and cheddar quesadillas and falafel and cucumber salad. More schools are looking to provide healthier options. Last year, several facilities around the country banned the snack food, Flamin' Hot Cheetos. The ban is based upon the food's lack of nutritional value. An Elementary School principal in Pasadena, California explains, "We don't allow candy, and we don't allow Hot Cheetos. It's mostly about the lack of nutrition."
