You guys know how much I love to find another way to display flowers. So I’m up and about shopping one day and I find these great hanging baskets. Now, you guys know me well enough to know that I wouldn’t pay more than like $15 for something like this because they’re going to be hanging outside anyway and they’re fine. And what I love about them is they’ve got this really cool coconut mats already inside of them so they look really naturey and cool. But I had them in my garden room. And as I’m hunting about and I bought these gorgeous hyacinths which are so fragrant and amazing, I’m trying to think, what can I do with these inside my house because it’s not quite ready for me to hang them outside yet and everything would die. So I’m literally marching in the house. Where am I going to go with this? What am I going to hang this out of? And I come over here and I’m going to hang them right here.
So this, I think it’s a really fun project to do with flowers. I’m always trying to find another to put flowers in my house, and something pretty or something different. And if you don’t happen to have some tie backs, maybe you have absconds that you can hang something like this stuff. You know, do as I do. Grab yours out of the garage or out of the basement or wherever you keep your gardening stuff. If you don’t have some, run to your garden and pick some up for like $14 and then march around your house with them like I do. It’s always nice to have two of them. I’m going to hang mine on both sides here, but you may just pick up one and be on your merry way. Get yourself some flowers and go to town with some decorating.
So just watch. This is going to be an absolute snap of gorgeousness and I’m just going to hang it there. Now, I did buy these hyacinths. You know my golden rule, and I know you guys know that I don’t have many rules. But one of my golden rules is get rid of the ugly paper and the tag. Quite simply nestle them in, and whatever kind of flowers you find, I’m sure they’ll be great. Whatever flowers I find is sort of depending on where I am. It might be the garden center or it might be the grocery store. It just depends on what is going on. So don’t they look so pretty in there? Now, I try to keep on hand some Spanish moss and different mosses like this that you just get at the crap store. I don’t have a ton right now so I’m just going to nestle a little bit of that in, and then I ran out to my bulks woods and did a few clippings. Whatever you have in your yard or if you don’t have a yard and you just want to keep some crappy stuff on hand like some bags of moss like that or some Spanish moss, I think box would be so perfect because it’s so shiny and perky and pretty like this. But maybe you have some glorious magnolia tree in your yard that you want to clip. That would be perfect too.
But the reason I like doing this is I like to be able to cover up just the top so I don’t see the dirt and everything like that. I just think it’s so much prettier to nestle a bit more green in here. So you know, I just kind of put it in and twist it around and tell it kind of works in my favor. No magic to this, just a little monkeying around. I love working with flowers. I just think it’s calming to do and they’re just so beautiful and fragrant and pretty to look at. So you know, you could put as much of these in this as you want, plus I love the contrast.
Then what I will do very often is I also find some branches or something to sneak in. But as I was in the basement to day, I found these fake pussy willow branches. We have pussy willows that actually grew on the marsh but they’re not all in bloom and everything, but this is so pretty. I found this at a craft store. Again, keep your eyes open for this kind of stuff because it really is pretty to nestle in—a little fake stuff like this with the real thing and it adds yet another texture. And for me, it’s just that little nod to spring that I am craving so badly. So just take your wire clipper and just trim off a few little spots if I can. There we go. And just kind of tuck them in. And you can see, they’ll give you that little extra height. You can keep it as long as you want to. I’m going to keep mine a little bit shorter, but these are so pretty nestled. They just kind of pop out, give a nod to spring.
So just one more to tuck in here, but you know—that was all like five minutes. A quick beautiful springtime basket. Now, what I also like about these is when they need to be watered again, I just unhook it, walk over to the sink, give it its lovely shower, let it drain and then pop it back on here and it’s ready to go and I’ve got just that much more beauty hanging around in my house.
