A first office block, Bait Al Wakeel was built in 1934 by Washeed Bin Sayyid Al maktoum Shiekh. This naturally didn’t scrape the sky. The time of high rise buildings came only a few decades later. It’s interesting that supermodern high buildings are often decorated with classicist elements in the Middle East and Far East alike. Some of them are ornate with Greek pillars while domed, tympanum structures tower on the tops of others. The elements of traditional Arab and modern architecture are mixed similarly in the Deira Tower standing on Baniya Square. Dubai’s commercial and financial center was built along the Shiekh Zayed Road leading to Abu Dhabi. The 39 storey building of the World Trade Center also includes a convention center in which international affairs are held. The Emirates Tower, the highest building complex in the city was built in 2000. Many people compare it to the speakers of a huge stereo. The buildings in the business district demonstrate the modern cosmopolitan face of Dubai. Behind the buildings of the 21st Century Tower and the International Financial Center, the silhouettes of other towers are visible. The Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah districts are not far from here where almost unbelievable new buildings projects are being executed.
