Parrot Cay Turks and Caicos Island
Female1: So I ride by boat today. It is—I don’t even know what to say, magnificent, is the only way to get here by boat.
Male: That is correct by boat and then you have to get permission from upper management to come to the island.
Female1: There are so many islands that make up Turks and Caicos. What’s the story of Parrot Cay?
Male: Well, the original name of the island was Parrot Cay. And many years ago, Parrot choose to live on the island, ruction of 55 foot hill which is actually one of the highest hills in the country. And you can imagine Parrots living on the top of this hill and being able three or four miles and—
Female1: So it’s funny.
Male: See if any other parrots will come in to steal their boat.
Female1: And just from going around, it’s just seem so peaceful.
Male: It was the vision of the owner to have a place where people could come and relax and juvenate themselves to go back to the real world.
Female1: Is this the only part of island in Turks and Caicos.
Male: That is correct.
Female1: Apart from the resort here hierarchy, is there anything else on this island?
Male: No just private fellows and their part of the overall island operation. So the owners of the resort own the entire island, so it’s very private. The Turks and Caicos as a whole is some of the most beautiful islands in the world. The water here is really unique, challenge anyone to tell me that where there is more beautiful ware anywhere in the world.
Female1: I stumbled upon my own private island here in Turks and Caicos called Parrot Cay. And right now, I’m headed to the Lotus Restaurant where I’m about to try a local seafood called Kong.
Female2: And here’s on of our specialty at Parrot Cay, our Kong Shambhala.
Female1: Well, thanks so much. Everywhere I go in Turks and Caicos, hey have Kong in the menu.
Female2: Well, it is one of our national dishes here.
Female1: Why do you join me for a little?
Female2: Thanks.
Female1: So what actually is Kong?
Female2: Well, actually a large thin snail and we have found pirato, the wooden cay around Turks and Caicos. We got local fishermen who bring them in and I will crack them on short corners.
Female1: Not fresh.
Female2: Very fresh. So ho do you have find your Kong Shambhala?
Female1: It’s delicious. It’s different. It’s very chewy, sweet, different kind of texture from the seafood. I’m a custom feeding.
Female2: And the taste of the ocean.
Female1: Everybody in Turks and Caicos love it.
Female2: Yes. So it’s definitely one of their national dishes and some they plug as well.
